Last September I took a survey trip to Central Asia. It was a great trip even though we never got our luggage. However, during our trip I became very uncomfortable with who I was becoming physically. I know I was getting bigger and bigger, but I had never been that big. Flying became uncomfortable, walking long distances became difficult, and I was getting fatigued by mid afternoon. I knew I needed a change.
Shortly after this trip I visited a doctor here in KC for something unrelated to my weight. While talking with the doctor, I explained how I was feeling and asked for any recommendations. He repeated much of what I had already heard and then he put a flier in my hand for a book. "Read this and apply what it says."
With in a few days I worked up the nerve to go to Borders and pick the book up. The Forever Young Diet and Lifestyle by the O'Keefes changed the way I look at food and exercise. By the beginning of October I was applying the principles I learned in the book. Not only did I lose weight, I gained energy. Since October I have lost around 20 lbs.
So what did I do? I READ THE BOOK! Here are few things I applied right away:
- I quit drinking soft drinks.
- I started drinking water and green tea.
- I quit eating most sweets (dark chocolate is still allowable in very small quantities).
- I started eating 9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
- I began exercising every day.
My goal is to lose another 10-20 lbs before our deployment to Central Asia. Pray for me in this.
I would like to recommend this book to all out there who would like to try to change their lifestyles so they can get out and do what God wants them to do.
